In
order to give parents the choice to more effectively meet the unique needs of
their children, the Gardiner Scholarship Program, formerly known as the
Personal Learning Scholarship Account (or PLSA), was launched in 2014.
The
accounts can be used by parents of eligible Florida children to fund prepaid
college plans as well as buy recognized educationally related items or
services.
For
whom is the Gardiner Scholarship Account Program available?
Via
this initiative, a student is qualified for a Scholarship from AAA if:
Florida
is the student's state of residence;
The student has at least one of the disabilities (as defined by Section 1002.385(2)(d), Florida Statutes) listed below
The student will be 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1
The student is eligible to enrol in
kindergarten through grade twelve in a public school in Florida; and the
student has a AAA Diagnosis of Disability Form completed and signed by a U.S.
licenced physician or a Florida licensed psychologist that matches at least one
of the disabilities.
What
is the value of the scholarship?
The
scholarship is worth 90% of the cash a school district would receive for the
student and varies depending on the student's grade, county, and matrix score.
The majority of students borrow on average $10,000. If a kid receives an IEP
after being given a Gardiner Scholarship, they may qualify for a larger
scholarship amount, especially if they have the most severe disabilities.
How
can I make a scholarship application?
On
our website, www.aaascholarships.org, AAA will give an application that can be
completed online or printed, signed, and sent back to AAA with all necessary
documentation.
Including
a Florida psychologist or a qualified U.S. doctor's diagnosis of a qualifying
impairment.
How
do scholarships get given out?
In
accordance with the principle of first completed, first awarded, scholarships
are given to qualified students in the following order of priority: renewing
students; students retained on the wait list from the previous school year; new
applicants; and late-filing applicants (renewals and wait listed students who
missed the priority deadline).
Before
the Florida Department of Education has compared the student's name to the
lists for public schools and other Florida scholarship programmes, eligibility
is conditional. Every year in July, the cross-checks start, and they continue
each month as new applications are discovered conditionally.
Eligible
up until the point at which all grant money has been used.
How
do scholarships get their money?
With
a state grant to the AAA Scholarship Foundation, the Florida Department of
Education funds scholarships. Each year, the state decides how much money will
be allocated to the programme.
Does
my child's scholarship need to be renewed annually?
Yes,
eligibility must be assessed annually.
How
can I get more information on the scholarship?
Please
consult the AAA Florida Gardiner Scholarship Guide, which is accessible from
our website at https://www.aaascholarships.org/parents/florida.
