Punjab to Launch Digital Hunar Program to Expand Youth Employment Opportunities

The Digital Hunar 2.0 initiative will be made available by the Punjab government in an effort to increase career prospects for young people and equip them with digital skills. In order to explore the roadmap for the Digital Hunar 2.0 initiative, a consultation session and a programme design workshop were held at Arfa Software Technology Park. The Punjab Higher Education Department (HED), the Planning & Development (P&D) Board, and the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT and ITeS (P@SHA) collaborated to arrange the event.

Participants in the consultation session were also invited to offer their ideas on the planning and implementation of Digital Hunar 2.0 with representatives from the government, the IT sector, and academia.

Dr. Arslan Khalid, the minister of IT for Punjab, stated that at least 16,000 university graduates from Punjab graduate each year, and that they provide 54% of the country's annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The goal of Design 2.0 is to benefit both the country's economic development and the youth by producing at least 20,000 jobs across Punjab.

The provincial minister HED emphasised the importance of educating the youth in both academics and digital skills. He stated that in order to develop better human resources and produce a pool of qualified professionals, it is crucial to train both students and faculty members of educational institutions in the most recent digital capabilities.

Design 2.0 is a series of capacity-building training workshops that will use specialists from the IT sector to educate college professors and aspiring professionals in the most recent tech-driven skills. The technological divide between academics, the IT industry, and the students will also be reduced as a result, according to Professor Dr. Asghar Zaidi.

The graduating batches will get the Digital Hunar 2.0 Program as part of "Taleem Aur Hunar Sath Sath Orientation" over the course of six months beginning in January 2023. "Taleem Aur Hunar Sath Sath," a government of Punjab initiative, has already been held with success in some of the major cities in Punjab.

The campaign's goals are to empower young people and raise public awareness of initiatives to promote both education and skill development.

The e-Rozgar programme, another fantastic initiative of the Punjab government in this field, has helped roughly 48,000 educated youths across the state earn a living amicably through the contemporary notion of freelancing. According to a statement from Malik Tabraiz, who is in charge of the e-Rozgar Training Center in Muzaffargarh, training for seven different programmes is currently underway thanks to a joint effort between the Punjab Information Technology Board and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Pakistan is in a good position because 60% of its population is under 30. Given that there is one of the largest youth bulges in the world, it is imperative to provide these young people with the education and skills that are in high demand both domestically and internationally. The preferred option today is digital technology. The country's universities and colleges currently produce 500,000 graduates each year, yet some of them are unemployed because they lack the skills that employers are looking for. This is according to the Higher Education Commission. The government's programme tries to address this weakness by educating young people in the most recent technology and skills.

The internet will continue to be one of the main sources of employment even after the pandemic is over. Because digital technology is the rage in the modern world and is accomplishing things that were unthinkable before it arrived on the scene, the government's endeavour is sensible and admirable.

 Mission

Establishing a new cadre of technically qualified Pakistanis with advanced degrees, creating new career prospects. That is, A SKILLED PAKISTAN.

 Vision

  •  starting a movement to train motivated illiterate, semiliterate, and literate people:
  •  offering technical education "with a difference" in terms of skill level and ethical, social, and moral principles
  •  being a self-sustaining model by:
  •  delivering internationally recognised, marketable skills that will enhance society's perception of trades.
  •  delivering customer-focused and sector-specific skills

The true goal is to serve as a catalyst for the promotion of vocational education in Pakistan, enhance the standard of technical education there with respect to international certifications, and make our graduates employable both domestically and internationally.

In addition to sending some of our instructors to Australia, Germany, and the US and inviting instructors and consultants from those countries, Hunar continually improves the technical capabilities of our instructors.

About E-Rozgaar Programme

The E-Rozgaar Program teaches young people digital and freelancing skills so they may pitch on international freelancing platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, and PeoplePerHour and make handsome incomes from freelancing instead of looking for jobs. The initiative aims to empower young people because it might be difficult to manage the youth bulge in a country like Pakistan where the average age of the population is between 22 and 27. The project has an objective to train 25,000 individuals in freelancing and open a total of 41 training facilities in Punjab, including 5 female-only centres. E-Rozgaar actively works to inculcate the necessary employability skills in Punjabi youth.

The project presently has 3,118 students enrolled, 32 active centres operating throughout the Punjab province in various colleges and educational institutions with appropriately equipped labs, and has taught more than 16,000 applicants in digital skills. Four of these centres are specifically for women. Graduates of the programme who participated in a sample poll said they had so far earned more than 230 million Pakistani rupees. The chosen candidates receive three months of complimentary instruction in their chosen field from knowledgeable instructors at their chosen district level locations.
